If a national fly tournament were to be held, then the Killer by Thor Nielsen would be on its home field at lake Thingvallavatn. For years, this fly has been mentioned first of all when people ask about which flies to use in lake Thingvallavatn. Originally designed in 1975 by Thor Nielsen, and since then, new variants in new colors have steadily been created, and thus is now known as black, red, white, grey, orange, brown Killer. The Black Killer is the original and has always been known by its original name – namely Killer. The variety of beads for the fly is infinite; gold, silver, black, you name it and try it. The original one has a silver bead.
Be prepared to lose a lot of those flies when used in lake Thingvallavatn, because if you don’t strip it so slowly that it snags in the bottom once in a while, you are stripping it too fast.
