There are number of flies that have been born on the river Laxa in Myvatnssveit in North Iceland, and the Rektor is one of them. It was Kolbeinn Grimsson that first tied it and the story tells that he let Bjarni Kristjansson, rector of the Iceland Technical School at the time, use it but keep it unnamed during a trial of the fly at river Laxa.
By the end of that day, the fly had brought a number of fish for Bjarni, and as such, when Kolbeinn was inquired about the name of the fly he immediatly named it the Rektor.
Since then the Rektor streamer has become one of the most effective fly when fishing for brown trout and is an absolute must when going to the trout rivers of North Iceland.
